Postdoctoral Research Fellow: Social ties, gender and survival in Canada
A research team of epidemiologists, sociologists and clinical specialists at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver Campus, seeks a Postdoctoral Research Fellow for a 1-year term.
The successful candidate will have a leading role in a CIHR-funded research project looking at the impact of social ties and gender on cardiometabolic markers of longevity among Canadian older adults. We will seek to understand how the quantity and quality of different social ties influence longevity and health from a gendered perspective. The project promises to fill important gaps in knowledge about the physiological pathway linking social ties and survival in Canada, and the results will be communicated to research agencies and researchers through a range of written outputs.
Applicants must have:
- A PhD in epidemiology, quantitative sociology, health outcomes or a related discipline in the past five years;
- Proficiency with quantitative analysis of large cohort data (preferably using SAS or STATA);
- Demonstrated scientific productivity in terms of published manuscripts and conference abstracts;
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills;
- Fluency in spoken and written English;
- Knowledge of social determinants of health research and interest in gender-based analysis.
