University of Calgary

Postdoctoral Fellow

Area: Nutrition, gut microbiota and chronic disease

Duration: 2 years

Start date: September 1, 2019

Salary: $55,000

The Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the area of nutrition, gut microbiota and chronic disease. This position is funded by an Eyes High Postdoctoral Fellowship awarded already awarded by the University of Calgary to Dr. Raylene Reimer.

Job Description:

Obesity and other chronic metabolic diseases are a major public health crisis. A growing body of evidence links the gut microbiota to obesity and multiple other diseases. The gut microbiota is particularly vulnerable to perturbation during critical periods in early life. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for studies in rodents that examine the impact of early life antibiotic exposure on the developing gut microbiota and the impact on obesity risk. Dietary strategies to mitigate obesity risk, particularly prebiotics will be investigated. The Reimer lab is internationally recognized for their use of prebiotics to modulate gut microbiota.

Qualifications:

Applicants should have a PhD in an area related to nutrition, microbiota or chronic disease models. A background in nutrition is an asset but not required. Bioinformatics training/experience linked to gut microbiota is important.

Application details:

Interested applicants should email a copy of their CV to Dr. Raylene Reimer at: reimer@ucalgary.ca. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
