MSVU is made up of nearly 4,500 students (representing 64 countries), 540 faculty and staff, and more than 34,000 alumni. Faculty members and departments offer early access to hands-on research opportunities enabling both graduate and undergraduate students to enhance their education by working alongside forward-thinking researchers. Reporting to the Vice-President Academic and Provost, the Associate Vice-President (AVP), Research is appointed by the Board of Governors on the advice of the President and is appointed to a five-year (renewable) term. The AVP Research strategically oversees the University's research programmes, facilitates the academic operations of the Research Office, supports faculty in research endeavours (including identifying novel funding sources, facilitating appropriate supports for funding, collaboration and research activities), works with other senior administrators, and represents the University in the area of research - both internally and externally. The AVP Research will enhance the University's research and development capacity and activities, raising the profile of research in regional, national and international settings, and developing and enhancing effective relationships with funding agencies, government bodies and agencies, and foundations that fund research.
As the ideal candidate, you are eligible for appointment in a relevant academic department at MSVU and hold a PhD or an alternative combination of education, knowledge, and experience. You bring a record of research and/or community-based scholarship and pedagogy, including experience with individual and collaborative small- and large-scale research projects, a demonstrated commitment to and understanding of ethical and engaged research and practice across disciplines (including feminist and Indigenous research), and a successful record of supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. You are experienced in supporting diverse forms of scholarship, research and creative activity, building and supporting community-engaged research programmes, and bring an understanding of and appreciation for knowledge development and exchange. You have knowledge and understanding of the tri-council and other research funding programmes. You have a talent for building multi-faceted and diverse research teams that capitalize on inter- and cross-disciplinary synergies, collaboration and cooperation among academic units and with partners in other institutions and the broader research community. You possess an understanding of intellectual property in support of university research and an aptitude for innovation in technology transfer and commercialization, as well as an understanding of and interest in the emerging areas of scholarship, research and creative activity relevant to universities and their faculty members and students. You are a successful leader committed to excellence in education, research and scholarship, and are skilled at both internal and external engagement.
