Subject Matter Expert for Nutrition, Health and Wellness Program
Department Description:

Position Description:
MCE is currently accepting applications for subject matter experts to develop four courses for a new academic program in Nutrition, Health and Wellness. In this role, you will work with an instructional designer for the design, development and delivery of course content as well as the development of methods to assess and evaluate student progress within a course. All course content will be delivered in an online format.
Courses:
Subject matter experts are required for the following courses:
- Nutrition Fundamentals
- Nutrition, Fitness and Healthy Living
- Nutrition for the Lifecycle
- Healthy Aging: Health, Wellness and Nutrition
Course Format:
Courses are delivered online (virtual and/or asynchronous). Supplemental course resources, assignment submission, and student advisement will use McMaster University's learning management system (LMS), Brightspace (Desire to Learn). Courses are scheduled throughout the academic year.
Accountabilities:
- Develop a structure for the online course including all curricular and assessment elements.
- Prepare course outline as per the standards and requirements of the department.
- Work collaboratively with an instructional designer and learning systems technologist according to established timelines.
- Investigate relevant literature and pedagogical practices to enable an engaging learning experience
- Select and prepare content including text, visuals, and other learning assets such as podcasts and short videos for all modules/units/lessons and in compliance with accessibility standards
- Develop and update learning activities including formative quizzes, reflective exercises, case studies, discussion board activities that reinforce learning, in consultation with the instructional designer.
- Prepare comprehensive evaluation files including but not limited to, pedagogically meaningful tests, written assignments and projects.
- Cite and document all quotations, summaries, and paraphrases taken from secondary sources according to disciplinary standards (i.e., APA)
- Ensure that all copyright standards are met
- Participate in quality assurance review of modules, assignments, and course as a whole
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a professional in nutrition, health and wellness with extensive experience in the field. A minimum of a Master's degree or equivalent in an appropriate field of study and experience teaching in adult education is required.
Assets:
Asset skills include post-secondary education in nutrition sciences, dietetics or related programs along with professional certification or designations (current and/or "in good standing"). Expertise in dietetics, global food systems for health, human nutrition, physiology and metabolism, public health nutrition, health and wellness for the life cycle. Additional requirements include broad sector knowledge, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, proven research skills and problem-solving ability, computer acumen, and a demonstrated ability to enable others to learn.
