Manager Food and Nutrition Policy (1/2 Time)
Position Overview
The Manager, Food & Nutrition Policy will manage and perform all aspects of the Association's public policy and advocacy related to food and nutrition issues.
Major Responsibilities
Policy and Advocacy
- Formulate, implement, and/or track regulatory/legislative policy initiatives and regarding specific food and nutrition issues of interest to BAC members at the Federal and Provincial level.
- Emphasis is on drafting, negotiating (including problem-solving) and advocating BAC positions, including letters, position papers, testimonies, legislative proposals, public comments, and other relevant materials.
- Act as Secretariat to BAC's Technical Committee including Committee communications, arranging of meetings, provision of meeting materials and minutes as required.
- Support needs of the CEO and members as they relate to policy activities, such as drafting letters, writing talking points and testimony, and arranging and preparing for meetings.
- Work cooperatively with other relevant stakeholders, including health organizations, industry, and academia, as appropriate.
Education and Outreach
- Serve as principal liaison on food and nutrition issues for BAC with appropriate government departments, elected officials and staff and counterparts from other non-governmental organizations. This includes representing BAC at relevant meetings, briefings, events, and other policy venues. In some cases, this may include arranging and leading such activities.
- Identify opportunities for education and outreach on behalf of BAC,
- Engage BAC's Technical Committee and other constituents in policy efforts, providing them with the information needed to develop and support policy activities of BAC.
Communications, Research and Information Gathering
- Provide the CEO, Technical Committee, and BAC Members with timely information on relevant policy initiatives and BAC responding activities at the Federal and Provincial level.
- Develop and maintain relevant constituent information in BAC database
Communication
- Coordinate with CEO, and other persons/entities as appropriate, to identify priorities and determine strategy and appropriate roles for BAC in conducting policy activities.
- Regularly updates, interprets, and advises BAC members about relevant policy activities and decisions.
- Maintain contact with BAC constituents as needed.
Organizational Leadership
- Contribute to short and long-term organizational planning with BAC's Technical Committee
- Interact with the Board of Directors as needed.
